Tips, suggestions and advice about making the most out of our seasonally available, nutrient dense organic produce.
A message from Chef Landon:
“I have worked in some capacity at the market since 2012 and this year have been delighted to be the Market Chef. Through cooking demos, meal plans, chef & farmers spotlights, I am making cooking seasonally as easy as possible. People can come to the market and leave with a shopping list, a meal plan for the week, and the detailed knowledge to cook one of the dishes.
This year I've spotlighted the craft of 13 local chefs. Every week at the market, myself or a local chef prepare a veggie-centric dish using seasonal market produce. I've loved highlighting the star chefs of Athens from Heirloom, 5 & 10, and The National and also helping to support budding chefs promote their popups, catering companies, and side projects. UGA Snap Ed led a summer series on cooking market produce on a SNAP budget.
This year I produced the first "Chopped" style cooking competition. Three local chefs competed to make a dish for a panel of judges using a hidden basket of market produce. During historically the slow time of the Summer, market attendance was up 600 people.”
