The Athens Farmers Market Team

Esther has called Athens home since 2019. Before joining the market team, she spent 13 years as a professional chef and ran a local pop-up, Mouthfeel, using food as a way to connect with others. She stepped into the role of Market Manager in 2022 and now serves as Market Director, continuing to grow alongside the market and the community that makes it so special.

Her work is rooted in a deep care for local food systems and a belief that farmers markets are spaces for connection, support, and shared experience. She is passionate about creating an environment where farmers, makers, and neighbors feel seen, valued, and connected.

At the market, you’ll usually find her chatting with vendors and patrons, petting pups (and the occasional cat), or capturing small moments that reflect the spirit of the community. Outside of the market, she loves cooking for friends, enjoying live music, and spending time with her husband and furbabies.

Gunnar attended the University of Georgia for a BFA in Drawing & Painting back in 2014. Little did he know at the time, he was setting down roots for Athens to be his long time home.

Over the years you may have seen him or his scribbles around town in places like Treehouse Kid & Craft, Creature Comforts Brewing Co., M3 Yoga, Athfest and more! The belief that everyone is born creative and full of superhero potential is a grounding principle in his work and life.

His time spent working at local businesses has created a strong yearning to help foster and support the community in every way he can. Catch him at the weekly markets likely dressed in green overalls, sunny yellow glasses and a smile!

Athens is a music town, so having music at the market is a given!

Susan started her liaison with the market as a performing musician, and then took over booking performers in 2012. At that time, Susan was already booking music for events with the Athens Folk Music & Dance Society & Athfest.

You can also catch her performing at the market with one of her many bands (all Athens musicians are in at least 2!) including The Hobohemians, The Solstice Sisters & String Theory. Playing the market is a joy & she loves giving others the opportunity to connect with their community through music!
